The news did not sit well with Pastor Bill who resented his name being attached to the cancellation. "Never mind the hurricane," he said, "I can't have people going around saying that Bill cancelled church."
Not to be outdone by a hurricane, the pastor suggested the Sunday service be rescheduled to Wednesday. A quick check with those who planned to sing, play, read or present and the service was set for 7 o'clock.
Pastor Bill noted that a number of church members usually attend a prayer meeting on Wednesday so making it a worship service and extending an invitation to the greater community is an easy task.
The unusual mid-week service may be unusual in another way. Members from the sister church in Belmont had already planned a joint choir practice in Debert for that night. They are preparing for a joint service next Sunday when Belmont hosts a special thank you for Rev. Leslie Job who is retiring. It is hoped that the two choirs will perform together on Wednesday as part of their rehearsal.
The service will begin at 7:00 PM, lasting about an hour.
