The second annual church family picnic was held at the Jennings cottage in Portapique. Now dubbed the "Portapicnic", today's event was held in ideal conditions, both on land and in the water.
The tide rolled in for an early evening swim. L to R: Luella Crosby, Erma Sitser and Priscilla Jennings enjoyed the cooling dip.
The heat wave of recent days was nicely moderated by the offshore breezes from the bay. It proved to be the perfect setting for the picnic and for the outdoor Vespers Service. The wonder and beauty of God's creation provided both the focus and the backdrop.
The setting sun provided the perfect picture to end the day at Portapique.
Members of Debert Baptist were joined by some guests for the fellowship of the afternoon and the pot luck supper on the shore.
Susie Taylor brought her keyboard and provided music for the service. Randy Fortune put aside his harmonica in favour of a guitar, while Dannie MacInnis kept the beat on the snare drum. The trio of Gracie & B.J. Tan and John Carter offered a special presentation to the delight of the gathering.
The picnic outing was just one of the many family activities enjoyed by the people of DBC. The church family has been expanding its offerings, both in and outside the walls of the historic church.
