We started our new Christian Calendar Year with the commencement of Advent – each Sunday we had the four advent candles lit by the newest congregational members – Reg McCabe, Alberta Barker, Natasha Ross, and Kim King with scripture readings by our Deacon’s Priscilla Jennings and Erma Sitser. Their faces were beaming as they did this important task.
On Christmas Day, the Christ Candle was lit by our Sunday School Teachers – Linda Chapman, Sheila Hughes and Ruby McDorman while the Deacon’s read scripture.
We gathered in our Sanctuary on New Year's Day to continue wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and to boot a Happy New Year. It is really wonderful to feel no restriction in our vocal well wishes.
Our message this week covered “Resolutions that Work” – ones that we don’t break within a few hours of listing our intentions for the coming year, resolutions we suspect will never be kept.
Take a moment and read Galations 6:1-10, all that we need to do is listed right there in your Bible. Our Lord will strengthen us to be eyes, ears and feet and all we have to do is live His word so that others may see what they are missing.
Do you realize that doing for “self” never accomplishes anything but if you do it for others, the “self” becomes the lesser and those receiving the rewards that you offer are richer by “ten-fold”. We must become servants who lead by example.
During prayer time do not just turn your day over to Christ by words, follow through with your commitment – and ensure it is not centred on self.
Remember our Lord was a servant, as He came to serve. He washed the feet of His disciples, even over their objections. His Father gave Him to us to serve and we are likewise encouraged to serve others.
We do not have to look far to see a need, we just need to be open to recognize the need when it is placed before us. Humble servants are missed by people but God sees all – we need to act, not wait until we get around to it.
We need to let everyone know us by our fruits – let us be a willing servant to our Lord – our actions speak so much more than our words – we are showing the world that we are humble servants, no matter how small the task may seem.
Blessings in the Name of our Lord and see you in Church on Sunday. Our morning traditional service is at 10:45 and we also offer a contemporary service at 7 pm.
